You shouldn't use non-impact rated sockets on an impact wrench but I'm sure we've all done it in a pinch. Standard sockets run the risk of cracking or shattering when used with an impact wrench. They will go on just fine but sometimes they don't want to come off. Standard sockets are meant to be used with ball detent ratchets. If you put a standard socket on an impact wrench, it can get stuck on the friction ring. See links below for the parts and tools I used:
